2004 CCIW SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Augustana clinched at least a share of its first ever College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin softball title last week with five victories in six games. In the process, the Vikings Jilian Widick was named the CCIW's "Pitcher of the Week" and Heidi Hallstrom was chosen as the "Batter of the Week" for the week ending April 25.

Widick won three games last week, beating Wheaton 7-1 on April 21, shutting out Elmhurst 5-0 on April 23 and defeating North Central 3-1 on April 24. The win over North Central was the game that clinched the conference title for Augustana. Widick worked 23 1/3 innings on the week and gave up just nine hits and no earned runs while striking out 16 and walking four. She also became the Vikings single season record holder for strikeouts. She is 17-3 on the season with a 0.95 earned run average.

Hallstrom batted .474 with nine hits in 19 at-bats last week while scoring seven runs and driving in five. She also stole a base, walked once and homered once. She was three for three with a run scored and an RBI in the 3-1 win over North Central that clinched the CCIW title.
