Carthage wins four-round cciw men's golf championship

SILVIS, Ill. – The Carthage Red Men, behind a four-day team score of 1232, earned the 2007 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Golf Championship Saturday, securing the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

This was the first time that the CCIW Men’s Golf Championship was held as a four-round event. The first two rounds took place at Bolingbrook Golf Club in Bolingbrook, Ill., two weeks ago, while the championship wrapped up at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.

Illinois Wesleyan came in second with a team score of 1236, while Elmhurst was third at 1280. Millikin (1289), Wheaton (1290), Augustana (1295), North Park (1308) and North Central (1356) rounded out the team scores.

Eric Johnson from Augustana earned medalist honors with a four-day score of 307, while last year’s medalist, Tyler Wollberg from Carthage took second with a score of 309. Rounding out the medalist winners were Carthage’s Scott Hood (309), North Park’s Peter Johnson (310), Carthage’s Matt Carr (311), Illinois Wesleyan’s Mike DeRuntz (313), Illinois Wesleyan’s Ryan Gumbel (314), Millikin’s Mark Linton (314), Elmhurst’s Anthony Pryor (317) and Carthage’s Tim Gannon (317).
