Illinois wesleyan wins fifth straight conference title

TITANS WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT CCIW TITLE

PONTIAC, Illinois – The Illinois Wesleyan Titans played just well enough on the second day to hold off Millikin and win their fifth consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men’s golf championship on Saturday, April 30 at the Pontiac Elks Club in Pontiac, Illinois. Jim Ott’s club shot a two day, 36 hole total of 615 (300 + 315) to best the Big Blue and Carthage by three strokes. Millikin went 305 and 313 for its 618 while the Redmen shot a 321 the second day after grabbing a first day lead with an impressive 297. Augustana was fourth at 628 (306 + 322) with North Park taking fifth at 631 (317 + 314). Elmhurst was sixth with a score of 642 (310 + 332), Wheaton took seventh at 652 (322 + 330) and North Central was eighth at 698 (343 + 355). Corey Choate of Millikin and Mickey Stefan of Illinois Wesleyan tied for the individual championship with identical scores of 148. Choate shot 75 and 73 while Stefan went 74 and 74. Choate won the playoff to grab the medallist honor. Trent Martin of Augustana, the defending champion, was a solid third with a score of 150 (73 + 77).
