Carthage Sweeps CCIW Baseball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Chris Shannon and Trace Ruffie of Carthage earned baseball player of the week honors in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Shannon, a junior outfielder from Schaumburg, Ill., and Conant High School, went nine-for-15 in five games last week (.600) with a double and six stolen bases in six attempts. Shannon was playing in place of Boe Baitinger, who turned an ankle against Millikin on April 29, but is expected back in the Red Men lineup this week.

Ruffie, a freshman pitcher from Mt. Prospect, Ill., and Hersey High School, collected a win and a save in two appearances last week. Ruffie threw a three-hit shutout with five strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Aurora on May 1. On May 6, he blanked North Park over the final two innings to earn his first save in a 5-0 win over the Vikings.
