Hermes, Goldblatt Earn CCIW Baseball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- David Hermes of Carthage and Robert Goldblatt of Elmhurst earned baseball player of the week honors in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Hermes, a junior outfielder from Fort Atkinson, Wis., had a big week behind the plate, going 11-for-17 in four games last week for a batting average of .647. In addtion, the junior also scored five runs and drove in six. Carthage is currently in a five-game winning streak including a win over Elmhurst on April 24 and a three-game sweep of Millikin over the weekend.

Goldblatt, a senior pitcher from Buffalo Grove, Ill., and Stevenson High School, silenced the North Park bats in a critical game for Elmhurst. In Sunday’s 11-1 win over North Park, Goldblatt worked seven innings and allowed only five hits and one earned run while striking out one. Having worked 3.2 innings of one-run relief earlier in the week, Goldblatt finished the week with a 1.69 ERA in two appearances, allowing only two runs in 10.2 innings.
