Contaldo, Foster Earn CCIW Baseball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Anthony Contaldo of Elmhurst and Jesse Foster of Illinois Wesleyan earned baseball player of the week honors in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Contaldo, a senior shortstop from Sleepy Hollow, Ill., and Dundee-Crown High School, posted a .536 batting average while leading Elmhurst to a 5-1 record on the week. He finished the week with 15 hits in 28 at bats. He scored 11 runs and finished with six doubles, a triple and seven RBI. His slugging percentage for the week was .821. Contaldo had a hit in every game and had multiple hits in four games. In Elmhurst’s 17-7 win over Wheaton on Friday, April 20, he finished three-for-four with a pair of runs scored. In Saturday’s 26-19 win over Wheaton, he finished four-for-seven with three doubles. He scored a pair of runs and drove in three. On Sunday, April 22, he finished with five hits in eight at bats in a doubleheader split with the University of Chicago.

Foster, a sophomore pitcher from Homewood, Ill., and Homewood-Flossmoor High School, pitched a nine-inning complete game four-hitter, striking out five in a 7-0 win over Carthage on April 20. In a 92-pitch effort, Foster walked only one and surrendered one extra base hit and the Red Men only got one runner to third base. He got 15 ground ball out from Carthage who came into the game hitting .333.
