Illinois Wesleyan Sweeps CCIW Baseball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Ricky Angel and Matt Aronson of Illinois Wesleyan earned baseball player of the week honors in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

In helping Illinois Wesleyan win all seven of its games (all conference) last week, Angel, a junior second baseman from Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Glenbard West High School, turned in another solid week, batting .500 (11-of-22) with two doubles, a triple, five home runs and eight RBI. He also scored eight runs, had a 1.364 slugging percentage and a .556 on base percentage. To finish his week, Angel hit a pair of home runs in the Titans’ 6-0 win at North Park on April 15.

Aronson, a sophomore lefthander from LaGrange, Ill., and St. Ignatius High School, has not allowed an earned run in his 40 innings this season and had 13 innings in earning two pitching victories last week. On April 9, Aronson struck out 10 and allowed only one hit as Illinois Wesleyan beat Millikin, 3-0. Then, on April 14, Aronson pitched six innings and struck out three, allowing only two hits and one unearned run as The Titans beat North Park, 2-1. For the week, opponents batted only .075 against Aronson and just .138 for the year as he improved to 4-0.
