Carthage Headed to St. Louis for NCAA Baseball Regional
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The NCAA announced the 53-team field for the Division III Baseball Championship Monday and Carthage was the lone representative from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) named to the tournament.
The Red Men (33-7), champions of both the regular season and CCIW Tournament, will travel to St. Louis, Mo., and Washington University to play in a six-team, double-elimination regional starting May 17. The winner earns a trip to the College World Series. Carthage earned the conference’s automatic qualifier by winning the CCIW Baseball Tournament held May 13-14.
Joining the Red Men are Millsaps (34-11), Washington (34-5), Aurora (29-11), Webster (26-16) and Mount St. Joseph (28-15). Carthage will face Mount St. Joseph at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17.
This will be the first trip to the Central Regional for Carthage since 2004 when the Red Men finished 3-2, but lost in the regional final. This trip marks the 13th time in the NCAA Division III era that Carthage will play in the post-season. The Red Men qualified for the NCAA Regional from 1992-2000 and 2002-2004.
