Three CCIW Baseball players named all-american by the abca
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Three student-athletes from the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) earned all-America status from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) last week.
Wheaton shortstop Brian Kolb (Carlsbad, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) and Carthage first baseman Jason Acevado (Vernon Hills, Ill./H.S.) were both named to the first team, while Augustana third baseman John Wagle (Rock Island, Ill./H.S.) was named to the second team.
Kolb led the conference with a .527 batting average with six home runs and 52 RBI in 146 at bats this season. Kolb earned CCIW Player of the Year honors in helping lead the Thunder to their first conference tournament berth in school history.
Acevado was second in the conference with a .464 batting average. He was the CCIW's leader with 13 home runs and 66 RBI in 2008.
Wagle finished third with a .419 average and was second behind Acevado with 11 home runs and 60 RBI.
