Kolb, Kloss Named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Wheaton’s Brian Kolb and North Central’s Mike Kloss were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Kolb, a sophomore shortstop from Carlsbad, Calif., and Santa Fe Christian, helped lead the Thunder to a three-game sweep of Elmhurst last week. He hit .600 (nine-for-15), with five doubles and three walks as he tallied a .933 slugging percentage. Kolb swiped four bases on the week, drove in 10 runs and scored eight more runs. Against Elmhurst on Saturday, Kolb established new Wheaton single-season records for hits (60) and doubles (15) and has put together a school-record 21-game hitting streak. In a 23-13 win at home against the Bluejays on Friday, Kolb was three-for-five, with a double, five RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored. In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, a 19-15 Wheaton win, Kolb went three-for-five, with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. He closed his tremendous weekend with a three-for-five effort in a 15-9 win against Elmhurst. He belted two doubles, drew two walks, stole three bases, scored three runs and drove in two more in the victory.

Kloss, a sophomore pitcher from Chicago, Ill., and Notre Dame High School, hurled a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 win over Concordia (Ill.) on April 23 in River Forest, Ill. Concordia was 23-9 coming into the contest with the Cardinals. The sophomore retired 30-of-33 hitters he faced, never allowing a runner past first. Kloss struck out nine, registering a strikeout in every inning but the second.
