Acevado, Weaver Named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage’s Jason Acevado and Wheaton’s Josh Weaver were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Acevado, a senior first baseman from Vernon Hills, Ill., and Vernon Hills High School, batted .600 in three conference games last week (nine-for-15) with five runs scored, three home runs and eight RBI. In the Red Men’s 10-4 and 4-0 sweep over Elmhurst on April 14 at Butterfield Park in Elmhurst, Ill, Acevado went six-for-10 with his eighth home run in game one, his ninth in game two and a total of four RBI.

Weaver, a sophomore pitcher from Franklin Park, Ill., and East Leyden High School, picked up two victories in the past week, posting a 2-0 record. In 7-1/3 innings he allowed one earned run on just two hits for a 1.23 ERA, with six strikeouts. Last Wednesday, Weaver earned a win as he closed out a 9-8 victory in a resumed game against North Central that had been called due to darkness a week earlier. He did not allow a run in the effort against the Cardinals. On Monday, Wheaton made-up a rained-out doubleheader with Millikin and Weaver helped Wheaton to an 11-1 victory in the second game of the twin bill. Weaver earned the victory as the starting pitcher, with 5-1/3 innings of work. He allowed just one run, on two hits, striking out three Big Blue batters.
