Acevado, Kulavic Named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Carthage’s Jason Acevado and Illinois Wesleyan’s Brent Kulavic were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Players of the Week Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Acevado, a senior first baseman from Vernon Hills, Ill., and Vernon Hills High School, batted .478 in five conference games last week (11-for-23) with three doubles, four home runs, 12 RBI and an 1.130 slugging percentage. Acevado went four-for-four with a double, two home runs and seven RBI in the Red Men’s 21-7 win at North Park on April 1. He hit another homer in the 18-7 nightcap win. On April 6, in a come-from-behind, 4-3 win at Millikin, he hit a two-run homer in the eighth and a game-tying, RBI-double in the ninth. Acevado is batting .485 in 17 games with 10 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 33 RBI and a 1.015 slugging percentage.

Kulavic, a sophomore pitcher from Springfield, Ill., and Pleasant Plains High School, was 2-0 and allowed seven hits and no runs in 15 innings. Kulavic struck out 13 and walked only one in his two complete game shutouts. On April 6 he pitched eight innings and struck out seven in a 10-0 win over North Central. On April 1 he struck out six and allowed two hits in a seven inning, 5-0 win over Millikin.
