Contaldo, Dobosz Named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Anthony Contaldo of Elmhurst and Dave Dobosz of Illinois Wesleyan were named baseball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Contaldo, a junior from Sleepy Hollow, Ill., led the Bluejays to a 3-2 record over the weekend after posting a .722 batting average over five games. He had a pair of hits including a triple while scoring two runs in the Bluejays’ loss to Wheaton on Friday. On Saturday against Wheaton, he went 4-for-4 in the Bluejays’ game one win. He scored twice and drove in three while also smashing a solo homer. In the night cap, he went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI while helping Elmhurst turn an 11-1 deficit into a 13-12 victory. On Sunday, he record three hits, scored three runs and drove in three over a doubleheader with the University of Chicago. For the week, he finished 13-for-18 at the plate (.722 average) with 10 runs scored and two homers.

Dobosz, a senior from Lombard, Ill., pitched nine innings (in a scheduled seven-inning game) in a 3-2 Illinois Wesleyan win over Augustana on April 22. Dobosz allowed six hits, only one earned run and struck out three in improving to 6-1. Viking batters hit just .214 against him.
