Howard, Evosevich Named CCIW Baseball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Joe Howard of Illinois Wesleyan and Scott Evosevich of Carthage were named baseball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Howard, senior outfielder from Downers Grove, Ill., batted .450 (9 for 20) for the week as he helped Illinois Wesleyan win four of five games, including three conference games. He scored five runs and had eight runs batted in, including a three-run double that was the game winner over Elmhurst, 6-5, on May 6. He had four doubles, a .650 slugging percentage and a .522 on base percentage.

Evosevich, a senior pitcher from Iron Mountain, Mich., upped his record to 7-0 on May 6 with a 12-1 win over Millikin in the second game of a doubleheader. Carthage swept the May 6-7 series with the Big Blue, and the win in the first game on May 6 clinched the Red Men’s 13th CCIW baseball title. Evosevich allowed one run on four hits and no walks over seven innings in the nine-inning contest, and he dropped his season ERA to 1.11.
