Angel, Kuntz Earn First CCIW Baseball Players of the Week Honors of 2006 Season

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Ricky Angel of Illinois Wesleyan and Kevin Kuntz of Augustana were named baseball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Angel, a sophomore second baseman from Glen Ellyn, Ill., had five hits and scored six of the Titans’ 13 runs in a 6-5 and 7-1 doubleheader sweep over Greenville on March 4. Angel hit .714 with one home run and a slugging percentage of 1.143 and handled all five chances in the field.

Kuntz, a junior pitcher from Streator, Ill., worked 12 2/3 innings and came back from Augustana’s Florida trip with a 2-0 record and a 1.42 earned run average. He struck out eight and gave up nine hits, two earned runs and picked up a 6-3 victory against Hanover on Feb. 26, and a 10-6 win over Clarke on March 3. Augustana finished the trip with a 4-2 record.
