CCIW Hosts First-Ever Student-Athlete Workshop

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) hosted its first-ever student-athlete workshop over the weekend at the Grand Geneva
Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis.

The workshop featured guest speakers, team-building exercises and group activities all geared towards
helping student-athletes become better leaders on their respective campuses and make the most out of their experiences as a collegiate athlete.

Psychology was on hand, talking about teamwork and leadership while Stan Johnson, president and founder
of Stan Johnson & Associates, spoke on diversity education. Additionally, Carthage advisor Gary Williams led the student-athletes in a game of Pictionary on Friday night. The weekend also included student-athletes discussing the future of NCAA Division III.

The workshop's breakout sessions featured presentations on the operational structure of the CCIW and NCAA by
CCIW commissioner Chris Martin, a presentation by Williams on enhancing the Student-Athlete Advisory
Council (SAAC) on campus, and a presenation by Johnson giving student-athletes advice on life after college and
using their experiences as athletes to better their
respective careers.

The entire workshop was funded through the NCAA
Division III Strategic Initiative Grant Program.

"The workshop received a lot of positive feedback from those in attendance," Martin said. "We're extremely happy with how everything turned out this weekend and hope to do something like this again in the future."
