Track & Field/Cross Country
DECATUR, Ill. -- Millikin University is pleased to announce new head coaches for its track and field and cross country programs.  Peter Seal will become Millikin’s new head men’s and women’s track and field coach.  Matthew Hayes will become Millikin’s new head men’s and women’s cross country coach and assistant track and field coach.

Seal comes to Millikin from the University of North Dakota where he has served as an assistant track coach since 2003.  Seal spent one year as the head cross country/track coach at McPherson College and was an assistant cross country and track coach at Manchester College.  Seal has United States Track and Field Association Level I and II certifications for the sprints, hurdles, jumps, multi-events, endurance and throws.

During his six year collegiate coaching career he has produced one national runner-up, four All-Americans, thirteen conference champions, fourteen conference runner-ups and numerous all-conference performers.  At the University of North Dakota, Seal coached the throws and his athletes set new school records in the javelin, hammer and weight throws.  He produced four All-Americans and seven conference champions.  In addition to his head coaching duties, Seal will work with Millikin’s throwers, vaulters and multi-event athletes.

“Millikin has a great academic program and an outstanding track facility,” said Seal.  “I look forward to building on and expanding the success Coach Luy has built over the last 24 years.  My program will have lots of excitement and enthusiasm for achieving on the track and off.  I want the student athletes to be excited both on the track and in the classroom.”

“We are very pleased to have Peter Seal take over our track and field program,” said Lori Kerans, Millikin Athletic Director.  “He has the energy and enthusiasm to continue the success Coach Luy has brought to our track and field program.”

Women's Soccer
DECATUR, Ill. -- Millikin University is pleased to announce that Steve Golas, currently of Woodridge, has been named the new head women’s soccer coach.  Golas will also serve as an assistant coach for Millikin’s track and field program.

The appointment of Golas to head the women’s soccer program will allow current Millikin soccer coach Craig Lee to concentrate on the men’s soccer program, which should help to both programs grow into perennial contenders for the CCIW title.

“Having two head coaches in the soccer program is a major step forward for the program,” said Lori Kerans, Millikin’s Athletic Director.  “Steve’s energy and experience makes him the right choice to join with Coach Lee to make our men’s and women’s soccer programs among the best in the conference.”

“Millikin wants to be successful and is doing all they can to become a top-tier program in women's soccer,” said Golas.  “The addition of an on-campus soccer facility is proof that Millikin wants to be a major player in the CCIW and I feel that over the next several seasons we will show that the commitment made to women's soccer will be
reflected by a program that excels both on and off the field.”

Golas comes to Millikin after most recently serving as the staff coach the Chicago Blast Soccer Club and clinician for Soccer Made in America. Golas directed the Blast to the National Soccer Indoor Championship in February.

Golas describes himself as a defensive-minded soccer coach who stresses hard work.  “I am a firm believer in the credo that hard work pays off,” adds Golas.  “Everyone who competes against our team, win or lose, will know they were in a ballgame and that Millikin soccer is a team dedicated to each other with one goal: Team Success.”

Golas is an experienced college soccer and track coach.  He spent two years as the assistant women’s soccer coach at NCAA Division II Angelo State University.  While at Angelo State, Golas helped the guide the program to its highest ever-regional ranking and the first ever back-to-back 10 win seasons.  Golas has head coaching experience in both soccer and track at William Penn University.  His men’s soccer team finished second in the Midwest Classic Conference (MCC) and he was named the MCC Track Coach of the Year.  Golas also coached women’s soccer at Bemidji State University.

Golas earned his Bachelor of Arts in History at Coe College where he was a four-year varsity letter winner in soccer and a three-year varsity letter winner in track.  He has a Master of Science in Sports Studies from Bemidji State University.
