Illinois Wesleyan to host 2018 CCIW Women's Basketball Tournament this weekend

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan University will host to the 2018 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women’s Basketball Tournament February 23-24.
 
The one-seeded Titans (22-3, 15-1) will host No. 4 seed Elmhurst (13-12, 9-7) at 7 p.m., while No. 2 seed Wheaton (21-4, 14-2) will face No. 3 seed Carthage (18-7, 11-5) in the other semifinal game at 5 p.m. on Friday. Friday’s winners will play for the tournament title at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The Titans will make their third-straight CCIW Tournament appearance and 14th overall this weekend. Under head coach Mia Smith, Illinois Wesleyan has won six conference tournament titles, including five-straight from 2008-2012. Smith’s teams have made eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a national title in 2012. The Titans won their eighth CCIW regular season title with an 82-61 win at Elmhurst on Tuesday night.
 
The Thunder enter this year’s tournament as the three-time defending champion. This will be the program’s eighth-straight conference tournament appearance and 14th overall dating back to its inception in 2003. Wheaton has won six conference tournament titles, including three under long time coach Beth Baker and three under current coach Kent Madsen. Madsen’s teams have also advanced to four NCAA Tournaments, including the last three.
 
The Lady Reds are back in the CCIW Tournament for the first time since 2015 and 13th time overall. Head coach Tim Bernero led Carthage to back-to-back tournament titles in 2013 and 2014 as well as four NCAA Tournament appearances. The Lady Reds advanced to the NCAA's sectional semifinal round in 2014.
 
The Bluejays will make their fifth-straight CCIW Tournament appearance and eighth appearance overall. Head coach Tethnie Carrillo’s teams have qualified for seven conference tournaments including a tournament championship game appearance in 2010.
