NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced today the addition of the University of Chicago as an associate member for women’s lacrosse beginning with the 2018-19 academic year.
The CCIW Council of Presidents approved the University of Chicago’s associate membership application during a recent meeting.
Established in 1890, The University of Chicago is a private research university located in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. The university has an enrollment of 15,726 students including 5,860 undergraduates and 9,866 postgraduates.
The addition of the University of Chicago gives the CCIW eight women’s lacrosse-playing institutions, joining current associate member the University of Dubuque, along with six core members including Augustana College, Carroll University, Carthage College, Elmhurst College, Illinois Wesleyan University and North Central College. The CCIW began sponsoring women’s lacrosse as a conference sport during the 2014-15 academic year.
“The CCIW is excited to add such a high caliber athletic and academic institution like the University of Chicago,” CCIW commissioner Chris Martin said. “This new partnership will enhance the student-athlete experience and add to a growing list of teams competing in women’s lacrosse both in the CCIW and in the Midwest.”
The University of Chicago becomes the CCIW’s sixth associate member beginning in 2018-19, joining current associate members the University of Dubuque (men’s & women’s lacrosse), Lakeland University, Concordia University Wisconsin and the Milwaukee School of Engineering (wrestling). Washington University in St. Louis will join the CCIW as an associate member for football beginning in the fall of 2018.
