North Park, Carthage to play for CCIW Men's Soccer Tournament title on Saturday

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – For the first time since 2011, Carthage and North Park will face each other in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Tournament championship on Saturday.
 
The two teams will play at 7 p.m. at North Park as the Vikings look to win their fourth tournament title in school history under the current format, and first title since 2010. The Red Men are also looking to win their fourth tournament title under the current format and third-straight. North Park and Carthage played to a 2-2 draw on October 11.
 
Carthage advanced to the tournament final with a 2-1 overtime win at Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday night as freshman forward Luke Schoffstall scored in the 97th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Freddy Martinez.
 
North Park defeated North Central 1-0 on Wednesday after junior midfielder/forward Carel Kawale scored his 14th goal of the season in the 25th minute off an assist from sophomore forward Peder Nalum Olsen.
 
The winner of Saturday’s championship contest will earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. The Red Men have made two-straight NCAA appearances, while the Vikings last qualified in 2014.
