Illinois Wesleyan's Schumacher, Augustana's Voland honored by USTFCCCA

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored Illinois Wesleyan coach Chris Schumacher and Augustana student-athlete David Voland with a pair of awards on Wednesday.

Schumacher earned Midwest Region Coach of the Year after he guided the Titan women’s team to the CCIW indoor title on February 28. His team enters this weekend's NCAA Championship ranked No. 3 in the country with 13 national qualifiers, tied for second-most. Of those 13 entries, four are ranked in the top three and eight are top 10.

Voland, a senior from Batavia, Illinois and Batavia High School, was named the Midwest Region’s NCAA Division III Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. He was named the CCIW Track Athlete of the Meet on February 28 after winning the 400-meter dash (48.76), anchoring the winning 4x400 relay (3:21.55) and finishing seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (08.01). His 400 time is currently second fastest in Division III.

The NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held March 13-14 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina at the JDL Fast Track.
