NCAA Cross Country Championship Qualifiers
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The NCAA Division III Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championship qualifiers were announced Sunday afternoon.
On the men’s side, North Central automatically qualified with a second place finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday in Rock Island, Illinois. Augustana was an at-large qualifying team after the Vikings finished sixth at the regional meet. Wheaton’s
Alex Holle was one of seven individuals from the Midwest Region to qualify after placing 13th on Saturday with a time of 24:42.7.
On the women’s side, three individuals from College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) institutions qualified from the Midwest Region. Millikin’s
Sarah Bradley placed second at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday with a time of 21:16.3, while North Central’s
Megan Costanzo was fifth (21:23.9) and Illinois Wesleyan’s
Erin McCarey was 12th (21:35.9).
All four individuals, along with the North Central and Augustana men’s teams, will travel to Winneconne, Wisconsin and Lake Breeze Golf Club for the 2015 NCAA Division III Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Championship. The event will be held on Saturday, November 21 with the women’s race beginning at 11 a.m. CST, followed by the women’s race at 12:30 p.m. CST.
Thirty-two teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 16 teams. Sixteen additional teams were selected at-large.
Fifty-six individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in each championship.
The North Central men won its 16th national title in 2014 as the Cardinals finished with 130 points and defeated defending champion St. Olaf, which finished with 143 points.
