Sola Olateju, Illinois Wesleyan’s
Sean Garvey and North Park’s
David Simmons were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week on Monday.
Olateju, a sophomore running back from North Oaks, Minnesota and Mounds View High School (Economics & International Relations major), finished with 193 rushing yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns during the Thunder’s 62-14 win over Millikin on Saturday. He scored all three of his touchdowns in the second quarter as his first touchdown, a two-yard run, broke a 14-14 tie and started the first of 48 unanswered points. His second touchdown was a career-long 85-yard run and his third touchdown, a 15-yard run, gave Wheaton a 34-14 lead heading into halftime. His 193 yards was a career-high on the day.
Garvey, a junior linebacker from Glenview, Illinois and Glenbrook South High School (Business (Marketing) major), totaled a game and season-high 18 tackles (six solo, 12 assisted) in a 21-7 win at Augustana on Saturday. Garvey helped lead a Titan defense that allowed just 284 yards of total offense for Augustana. He also added 1.5 tackles for a loss of four yards.
Simmons, a freshman defensive back from Indianapolis, Indiana and Southport High School (Sport Management major), blocked a 34-yard Elmhurst field goal attempt, which was returned 76 yards for the Vikings’ go-ahead touchdown in a 24-14 win over the Bluejays on Saturday. It was North Park’s first win against Elmhurst since the 2000 season. Simmons’ block on the field goal attempt came in the third quarter and was returned 76 yards for a touchdown by Robbie Hillier II that put the Vikings up 10-7. Simmons also recorded two tackles, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a pass breakup.
