NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carthage’s
Austin Bitta and North Central’s
Jon Borzick were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Players of the Week on Tuesday.
Bitta, a junior forward from Libertyville, Illinois and Libertyville High School (Finance & Management major), scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute off an assist from Shane Reilly to lead the Red Men to a 2-1 overtime victory at Illinois Wesleyan on October 10. The win extended Carthage’s unbeaten streak to six and kept the Red Men undefeated in CCIW play at 2-0-0.
Borzick, a sophomore midfielder from Lindenhurst, Illinois and Lakes Community High School (Anthropology & Classical Civilizations major), helped lead the Cardinals to a 1-0 shutout of North Park on October 10, giving them their first CCIW victory of the season. Borzick helped keep the conference’s leading goals scorer Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh without a goal in a match for the first time all season as North Central also held the Vikings scoreless for the first time in 2015.
