NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Austin Breunig, Wheaton’s Caleb Ashby and Carthage’s Fred McCann were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week on Monday.
 
Breunig, a sophomore running back from Sandwich, Illinois and Sandwich High School (Exercise Science major), rushed for 221 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns during the Cardinals’ 47-20 win over North Park on Saturday. He accounted for more than a third of the Cardinals’ 693 yards of offense as North Central established a new single-game school record for total yards and came within one yard of the conference’s single-game record.
 
Ashby, a junior linebacker from Saline, Michigan and Saline High School (Psychology major), totaled eight tackles (six solo), two tackles for loss, one interception and one pass breakup during the Thunder’s 31-14 win over Augustana on Saturday. His interception came at the Thunder one-yard line that stalled a Viking drive and preserved a 17-0 lead at the half.
 
McCann, a junior punter from Caledonia, Wisconsin and Union Grove High School (Marketing major), punted three times for 126 yards (42.0-yard average) during a 31-17 win at Elmhurst on Saturday. He had a long of 53 yards and helped the coverage team allow only one punt return for six yards by the Bluejays.
