NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carthage’s Daneric Hazelman and Elmhurst’s Alex Harbert were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Co-Men’s Tennis Players of the Week Wednesday.
Hazelman, a senior from Lautoka, Fiji Islands and Natabua High School (Management & Public Relations double major), went 4-0 last week including a 2-0 record in singles and 2-0 record in doubles. He defeated Ripon’s Eric Seiler (6-2, 6-3) at No. 1 singles and Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Peter Stadum (7-5, 4-6, 6-1) at No. 2 singles. Hazelman then teamed with Jeff Lotz to defeat Nick Piotrowski and Stadum (8-1) and Seiler and Alex Tande (8-4), both at No. 1 doubles. The Red Men defeated both Ripon (9-0) and Wisconsin-La Crosse (6-3).
Harbert, a sophomore from St. Joseph, Mich., and St. Joseph High School, also went 4-0 last week in helping the Bluejays to two victories, including a 7-2 defeat of Oberlin and a 6-3 win over Wabash. He defeated Oberlin’s Logan Chun (6-2, 6-0) and Wabash’s Wade Miller (6-1, 6-7 (2-10), 6-2), both at No. 1 singles. He then teamed with Will Jung to defeat Peter Gunderman and Miller (8-4) and Oberlin’s Charlie Marks and Soren Zeliger (8-4) at No. 1 doubles.
