KENOSHA, Wis. – Wheaton captured its 15th consecutive College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women’s swimming title on Saturday. It was also the Thunder’s 20th in the program’s history.

Wheaton won with a team score of 899.5, followed by Carthage (752.5), Illinois Wesleyan (750), North Central (336), Augustana (298), Millikin (205) and Rose-Hulman (155).

Illinois Wesleyan’s Angela Lugg (Woodbury, Minn./H.S.) was named the Most Valuable Swimmer while teammate Katie McHugh (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) earned outstanding performer recognition. Illinois Wesleyan’s Teresa Fish was named the Women’s Coach of the Year.

Wheaton began the night by sweeping the top three spots in the 1650-yard freestyle. Carlie Herich (Hebron, Ky.) won the event (17:28.14), followed by Lauren Jurgens (Decatur, Ill./St. Teresa) (17:31.83) and Caroline Dirks (Bloomington, Ill./H.S.) (17:35.64).

Wheaton’s Jamie Walitsch (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) won the 200-yard backstroke with a CCIW meet and open record time of 2:03.54. Illinois Wesleyan’s Andrea Peterson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) also broke the previous meet record time of 2:06.04 set in 2002 as she placed second with a time of 2:04.07. Carthage’s Kelly Loftus (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) was third (2:07.45).

Wheaton’s Moire Yue (Edina, Minn./H.S.) was the 100-yard freestyle champion (51.76) while Lugg placed second (52.19) and Carthage’s Lisa Perdue (Whittier, Calif./H.S.) was third (53.82).

North Central’s Katie Stratton (Naperville, Ill./North) (2:23.14), Carthage’s Allison Soper (Downers Grove, Ill./North) (2:23.50) and Illinois Wesleyan’s Katie Bell (Franklin Park, Ill./East Leyden) (2:23.86) finished first, second and third respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke as all three broke the previous meet record of 2:25.16 set in 2008.

McHugh won the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.77), followed by Millikin’s Kaley Whittrock (Jefferson City, Mo./H.S.) (2:07.77) and Illinois Wesleyan’s Grace Nafziger (Louisville, Ky./Presentation Academy) (2:11.36).

Wheaton’s Yue, Kelly Ormond (Fairlawn, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), Ali Offerdahl (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Westminster Academy) and Jurgens concluded the night with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:31.63).
