Three from CCIW named D3Baseball.com Preseason all-Americans

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) baseball players were recently named to the D3Baseball.com 2012 Preseason All-American team.

Wheaton junior Trey Martin (Wheaton, Ill./North) earned a first team selection as a utility player for his dual performance as both a third baseman and pitcher. In 2011 Martin posted a team-high .362 (54-for-149) batting average for the Thunder with eight home runs and 11 doubles. He drove in 36 runs with 33 runs scored and tied for the team-lead with 54 base hits, the 10th-highest single season hit total in school history. On the mound, he posted a 4-5 record, with a team-best 46 strikeouts in 10 starts.

Wheaton senior Justin Zeller (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) was named an honorable mention selection after he hit .355 (54-for-152) for the Thunder last season, with a team-best nine home runs. Zeller scored 39 runs and tied for the team lead with 43 RBI and a team-best .453 on-base percentage. Zeller’s nine home runs in 2011 was the third-highest single-season total in school history. His 43 RBI is sixth in Wheaton’s single-season record books and his 54 base hits is tied for 10th.

Along with Zeller, Illinois Wesleyan’s Kevin Callahan (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) was also named an honorable mention selection. Last season’s CCIW co-Player of the Year, Callahan led the Titans in batting average (.398), home runs (15), RBI (51), on-base percentage (.536) and slugging percentage (.758). He also set an Illinois Wesleyan single-season record with 42 walks.
