Driver, Garza and Bednarz named CCIW Football Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan’s Joey Driver, along with North Central’s Valente Garza and Caleb Bednarz were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Driver, a senior wide receiver from Matteson, Ill., and Rich Central High School, (Business Administration major) caught nine passes for 95 yards and three touchdowns during the Titans’ 28-0 shutout of Aurora on Saturday. He became the first Illinois Wesleyan player to catch three touchdown passes since 2009.

Garza, a senior from Winfield, Ill., and Wheaton North High School, (Marketing major) finished with four tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble during the Cardinals’ 86-14 win over Olivet on Saturday. With the two sacks, Garza moved into second place on North Central’s career sack list.

Bednarz, a freshman defensive back/punt returner from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, (Exercise Science major) had a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter of the Cardinals’ win over Olivet. It was the second-longest punt return in school history. He also returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown and finished with four tackles, two of which were on special teams.
