NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Sam Sweeney was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week Wednesday.

Sweeney, a senior from Crystal Lake, Ill., and Prairie Ridge High School (Biology major), went 5-1 over the weekend. He finished 3-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Matt Boguslawski (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) to go 2-1 at No. 1 doubles in matches against Wisconsin-Whitewater, Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Augustana. In singles, he defeated Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Andy McGashen (6-2, 6-1), Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Chris Kuna (6-2, 6-2) and Augustana’s Adam DeSimone (3-6, 6-1, 6-2). In doubles, he defeated Kuna and Lars Olson (9-7) and DeSimone and Andy Wall (8-5).
