CCIW announces outdoor track & field athletes of the week for April 5

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – North Central’s Amanda Laesch, Illinois Wesleyan’s Kyla Motz, along with North Central’s Mike Spain and Augustana’s Pat Zeunik were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week Tuesday. 

Laesch, a senior from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton North High School (Leadership Studies major), won the 10,000-meter run at North Central’s First Chance Invitational with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 35:41.35. This was also a school record and places her second on the NCAA Honor Roll. She also won the 5,000-meter run with a provisional time of 17:33.05.

Motz, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., and Pine Creek High School (Political Science major), threw a school record in the hammer throw at the DePauw Invitational with a toss of 149-9. She added 7 feet and 2 inches to her personal best as this is currently the top mark in the CCIW.

Spain, a senior from Schaumburg, Ill., and Schaumburg High School (Management major), won the 10,000-meter run at North Central’s First Chance Invitational. His time of 29:37.82 was a personal best and currently leads all of NCAA Division III.

Zeunik, a senior from Bloomington, Ill., and Bloomington Central Catholic High School (Biology major), won the triple jump with a leap of 49-6 ½ at the Wartburg Select over the weekend. Zeunik set the NCAA automatic qualifying mark and broke his own school record in the process.
