NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carthage’s Steve Djurickovic was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, the second such honor for him this season.
Djurickovic, a senior guard from Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and Kenosha-Bradford High School, led the Red Men to a pair of wins last weekend during the CCIW/MIAA Classic at Carthage College. Djurickovic finished with 31 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field, and six assists during the Red Men’s 71-70 win over Hope on December 3. With a layup at 9:46 in the second half, he broke Jason Wiertel’s Carthage career-scoring record of 2,113 points (1999-2002). The next night, in the Red Men’s 88-80 victory over Calvin, he had 24 points, 11 assists and five rebounds. Djurickovic’s 11 assists tied a tournament record set by Wheaton’s Jon Nielson in 2004, and the senior guard is now in eighth place on the all-time CCIW scoring list (2,152 points thru December 6). Only 15 CCIW men’s basketball players have scored 2,000 or more points, with Millikin University’s Leon Gobczynski’s holding the conference record at 2,635 points (1971-75). Djurickovic is an Exercise and Sport Science major.
