NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan’s Sean Johnson and Augustana’s Kyle Nelson were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Co-Men’s Basketball Players of the Week Monday.
Johnson, a senior guard from Washington, Ill., and Washington High School, scored 69 points in two Illinois Wesleyan wins last week. He had a career-high 35 points in an 81-68 win at Monmouth on November 23, making 10-of-14 shots from the field, including five-of-seven three-point attempts and a 10-of-13 effort at the free throw line. He also had six rebounds. Four days later, Johnson finished with 34 points in an 83-70 win at home over Dominican on November 27, making 12-of-18 field goals, including a five-of-10 performance from three-point range. He contributed three assists, three steals and five rebounds. For the week he shot .688 (22-of-32) from the field, .588 (10-of-17) from the three-point line and .750 (15-of-20) from the free throw line. Johnson is a Business Administration major.
Nelson, a senior forward from Deerfield, Ill., and Deerfield High School, finished with 18 points on seven-of-10 shooting from the field, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals during the Vikings’ 78-55 win over 20th-ranked Washington (Mo.) on November 22. He followed that with a 27-point performance in a 74-69 win over 14th-ranked Anderson on November 27. He was 11-of-13 from the floor and five-of-six from the free throw line with seven rebounds, one assist and two steals. For the week Nelson scored 45 points (22.5 per game) and shot .783 (18-of-23) from the floor and .818 (nine-of-11) from the free throw line. He grabbed 18 rebounds (9.0 per game) with four assists and four steals. He is a Math and Finance major.
