Coaches pick Illinois Wesleyan to win CCIW women's basketball title

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan was picked to win its fourth-straight College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) women’s basketball title in a preseason coaches’ poll conducted Thursday.

The Titans placed first with 47 points including five first place votes. Carthage finished second in the voting with 45 points including three first place votes. Both teams qualified for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship last season, advancing to the sectional round.

Millikin placed third with 35 points, followed by Elmhurst (33 points), Wheaton (25 points), North Central and North Park (14 points apiece) and Augustana (11 points).

Voting is done by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's women’s basketball coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own teams.

The CCIW women’s basketball season begins November 15.

Note: This year’s poll was announced in conjunction with the CCIW’s second annual coaches’ chat. Visit the following link for an archive of today’s chat.
