NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carthage was picked to repeat as College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men’s basketball champions according to the latest preseason poll conducted by the head coaches Thursday.
The Red Men won the poll with 46 points including four first place votes. Carthage was also ranked fifth nationally in the D3Hoops.com Preseason Poll. Illinois Wesleyan placed second in the preseason coaches’ poll, finishing with 45 points including four first place votes. The Titans were also ranked nationally by D3Hoops.com, placing fourth.
Augustana placed third in the poll with 37 points. The Vikings placed 24th in D3Hoops’ preseason rankings.
Wheaton was fourth in the coaches’ poll with 32 points, followed by North Park (22 points), North Central (19 points), Elmhurst (15 points) and Millikin (8 points).
Voting is done by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's men’s basketball coaches. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own teams.
The CCIW men’s basketball season begins November 15.
