Mowen, Sullivan Earn Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin named Mindy Mowen of Carthage and Mallory Sullivan of Wheaton Volleyball Players of the Week Tuesday after their performances over the past week of competition.

Mowen, a sophomore middle blocker from Winnebago, Ill., hit .324 in a pair of CCIW wins last week (16 kills, 5 errors, 34 attempts). Mowen hit .292 (10-3-24 attempts) in Carthage’s 3-0 win over North Park on Sept. 27 and .400 (6-2-10) in a 3-0 sweep at Augustana on Sept. 30.

With its win over North Park, Carthage won its 11th-straight regular-season CCIW match, which is a school record, breaking a mark of 10 straight set by coach Mary Secor’s team from Sept. 27, 1994, to Sept. 26, 1995. The Lady Reds extended that streak to 12 matches with the win at Augustana.

Sullivan, a freshman outside hitter from Belleville, Ill., helped lead the Thunder to a 2-1 record last week. Sullivan averaged 5.1 digs per game, with 66 digs on the week. She also averaged 1.0 block per game with 13 total blocks on the week. She made just three errors on 98 service reception attempts for a .969 service reception percentage. She also added 2.92 kills per game on the offensive side of the ball.

In a 3-2 win against Beloit on Friday, Sullivan shined with a career-high 35 digs and another career-high
seven total blocks, including four solos. She also recorded 44 service receptions on 45 attempts. Against Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday, Sullivan had six total blocks, adding 17 digs and 31 service receptions, on 32 attempts.
