NAPERVILLE, Ill. – With seven first place votes in the latest College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Pre-Season Volleyball Poll, the Carthage Lady Reds were predicted to defend its conference title in voting conducted by CCIW volleyball coaches.
Carthage (30-7, 7-0 in 2005) won the poll with 49 points, while Elmhurst (31-10, 5-2) placed second with 42 points. Millikin (29-10, 6-1) was third with 36 points, including one first place vote. Illinois Wesleyan (14-17, 3-4) placed fourth with 27 points, while Augustana (19-15, 3-4) and Wheaton (21-15, 3-4) tied for fifth with 25 points.
North Central (10-24, 1-6) and North Park (6-26, 0-7) rounded out the pre-season poll with 13 and seven points respectively.
Voting for the pre-season poll is done by the volleyball coaches in the CCIW. Each coach votes for the seven other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (seven points for first, six for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own team.
The CCIW volleyball season begins September 1.
