Kelly, Himmelhaver Named CCIW Volleyball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Maggie Kelly of North Central and Annie Himmelhaver
of Wheaton were named volleyball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Kelly, a senior outside hitter from Riverside, Ill., and Fenwick High School, helped the Cardinals go 4-1 last week and reached another milestone in the process. Already the school’s all-time leader for career kills, Kelly also broke the single-season record as North Central went 4-0 and won the Benedictine Tournament. In five games last week, Kelly had 103 kills (6.06/game) and eight blocks. She had a hitting percentage of .303 and was an all-tournament selection at Benedictine. She totaled a season-high 33 kills in a win over Benedictine and had 28 in a victory over St. Norbert.

Himmelhaver, a junior setter from Upland, Ind., and Snider High School, helped lead the Wheaton volleyball team to a 5-0 record last week, including a win over a nationally ranked foe. The Thunder won the Elmhurst College Invitational II as Himmelhaver earned all-tournament honors. She averaged 9.8 assists per game last week, with a hitting percentage of .259 and 11 service aces. She led the Thunder to a key CCIW win against North Central (3-1) last Tuesday with 50 assists and two service aces. On Friday Wheaton defeated 25th-ranked Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-1 as the junior recorded 27 assists, with seven kills and five service aces. In a 3-0 win against Elmhurst on Saturday she tallied 33 assists, with six kills and two service aces.
