Baumgartner, Bauer Named CCIW Volleyball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Angela Baumgartner of Augustana and Kelly Bauer of Carthage were named volleyball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Baumgartner, a sophomore middle hitter from Princeton, Ill., and Princeton High School, led the Vikings to a 3-2 record, including a 3-1 road win at Wheaton on Tuesday, October 3. Baumgartner played in 20 games and totaled 68 kills for a 3.40 per game average. She hit .268 with 68 kills, 26 errors and 157 total attempts. She had 15 blocks (six solo and nine assists) for an average of 0.75 per game. In the win over Wheaton she had eight kills and one block. In the opening round of the Augustana Invitational, she exploded with 24 kills and four blocks (two solo and two assists) in a 3-2 win over Luther. She hit .383 in that match with 24 kills, six errors and 47 attempts. She had 18 kills and three blocks in a 2-3 loss to North Central and 10 kills and four blocks in a 1-3 loss to Elmhurst. Baumgartner was the Vikings’ lone representative on the all-tournament team.

Bauer, a senior setter/right side player from Brookfield, Wis., and Brookfield Central High School, collected nine kills, hit .444 and averaged 8.66 assists per game in the Lady Reds’ 3-0 win at North Central on Oct. 3. On Oct. 6, in a 3-1 home win over Wheaton (Ill.), Bauer had 12 kills, hit .308 and averaged 10.5 assists per game. Bauer has helped Carthage to No. 10 in the country in the latest CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 25 poll.
