Kelly, Carlson Named CCIW Volleyball Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Maggie Kelly of North Central and Karen Carlson of Millikin were named volleyball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Wednesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Kelly, a senior from Riverside, Ill., and Fenwick High School, totaled 88 kills in five matches last week to help North Central post a 4-1 record. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter averaged 5.5 kills per game and had a hitting percentage of .380. Kelly had 20 kills in only 35 attempts in North Central’s victory over Pomona (Calif.). She also reached 20-plus kills in games against UC-Santa Cruz and Concordia (Ill.). For her effort, Kelly was named to the all-tournament team at the Pacific Coast Classic.

Carlson, a junior setter from Mahomet, Ill., and Mahomet-Seymour High School, helped Millikin improve to 7-1 with a 4-0 sweep of opponents at the Rose-Hulman Invitational (Millikin only lost one game). Carlson finished with a team-high 70 assists and also added two aces and three blocks. Against Eureka she had 16 assists, two kills and one block. Against MacMurray she had 11 assists and three kills to go with two aces and a block. In the win over Greenville she had 29 assists and four kills with one block. Against Earlham she had 14 assists and two kills.
