Simmons, Heckman Named Players of the Week in CCIW Volleyball

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Jori Simmons of Carthage and CJ Heckman of North Central were named volleyball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Simmons, a junior middle blocker from Frankfort, Ill., hit .474 (11 kills, 2 errors, 19 attempts) with three blocks in a 3-0 win over North Park on Oct. 3 and hit .345 (12-2-29) with six blocks in a 3-2 decision at Wheaton on Oct. 6.

Heckman, a junior setter from Shannon, Ill., averaged 11.75 assists per game to help North Central go 4-1 on the week. The Cardinals won the Ashford University Tournament and also dispatched Augustana College in CCIW play to improve to 16-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Heckman had 188 total assists on the week, in addition to five aces, 27 digs and eight blocks. She had 47 assists in a win over Ashford University, her third-highest total this season. She was named All-Tournament for her efforts.
