Bearwald, Passananti Earn Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Carly Bearwald of Elmhurst and Jenna Passananti of Illinois Wesleyan were named volleyball players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday.

Bearwald, a senior outside hitter from Northbrook, Ill., helped lead the Elmhurst volleyball team to a pair of CCIW wins last week. On Tuesday, she totaled 17 kills, 13 digs and four blocks in the Bluejays’ 28-30, 30-17, 30-24, 30-24 win over Millikin. In the match, she hit .414. On Friday, she finished with 15 kills, 18 digs and three blocks in the Bluejays’ 30-27, 30-32, 29-31, 30-28, 15-12 win over Illinois Wesleyan. For the week, she totaled 32 kills and hit .328 with 31 digs and seven blocks.

Passananti, a junior setter from Western Springs, Ill., averaged 13.88 assists and 3.75 digs in eight games as Illinois Wesleyan split a pair of CCIW matches. Passananti had 65 assists and 19 digs as the Titans lost a five-game match at Elmhurst, 30-27, 30-32, 31-29, 28-30, 12-15, on Sept. 22. She had 46 assists and a team-high 11 digs in a three-game win at North Park, 30-17, 30-17, 30-19, on Sept. 23. Passananti has moved into fourth place in the IWU record book with 3,088 career assists and is No. 15 with 947 career digs.
