cciw volleyball tournament: round two, saturday, november 3
Game Three: Augustana vs. Carthage, Saturday, November 3, 2 p.m.
Carthage defeated Augustana 30-28, 30-22, 30-21 in its previous meeting October 19. The win earned the Lady Reds the regular season title in the CCIW. In that game, Rachel Swoboda had 12 kills to lead Carthage while Ashley Kuehl had 11 kills against the Vikings. Katie Lundgren finished with 18 digs for Carthage. Augustana's Courtney Jungnickel and Lisa Neverman each had eight kills to lead the Vikings. Jaime Spolum had 35 set assists.
cciw volleyball tournament: round one, friday, november 2
Carthage, Augustana, Wheaton and Illinois Wesleyan all won their CCIW play-in matches Tuesday night. With the wins, the four teams advance to the CCIW Volleyball Tournament November 2-3 at Carthage. No. 2 Augustana faces No. 3 Wheaton on Friday in the first game, followed by Illinois Wesleyan vs. Carthage in the second game. The winners play for the championship on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Carthage.
Game One: Wheaton vs. Augustana, Friday, November 2, 4:30 p.m.
Augustana defeated Wheaton 3-1 on October 2 as Mallory Thelander (Evanston, Ill./H.S.) tallied 23 kills in the victory. Jamie Spolum (St. Charles, Ill./North) led the Vikings with 1,347 set assists this season while Courtney Jungnickel (Naperville, Ill./Central) had 318 kills to lead the team. Wheaton’s Annie Himmelhaver (Upland, Ind./Snider) had 100 kills and 887 set assists in 2007.
Game Two: Illinois Wesleyan vs. Carthage, Friday, November 2, 7 p.m.
Carthage enters the CCIW Tournament as the No. 6 team in the nation as they ran through the regular season with a 29-4 record (7-0 in the CCIW). The Lady Reds defeated Illinois Wesleyan 3-0 on September 25. Ashley Kuehl (McFarland, Wis./H.S.) led the way with 15 kills for Carthage. Kelly Bauer (Brookfield, Wis./Central) led her team with 802 set assists, while Kuehl was the team leader in kills with 357 on the season. Jenna Passananti (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons) of Illinois Wesleyan had 1,355 set assists to lead her team. Katie Butson (Troy, Ohio/Christian) had 456 kills on the season.
