Wheaton women's soccer looking for third title in four years
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- A 2-0 win over Pudget Sound on Saturday moved the Wheaton women's soccer team one step closer to its third national title in four years as the Thunder will face Western Connecticut State this Friday in the NCAA Division III Final Four.
Wheaton (25-0-0) has not lost a game since September 23, 2006, going 43-0-0 since losing 2-1 to Augustana in a regular season conference match-up.
The Thunder will travel to Lake Buena Vista, Fla., at Disney's Wide World of Sports where the Final Four will be held Nov. 23-24. Messiah will face the College of New Jersey in the other semifinal game.
Wheaton is trying to become the first team since Ohio Wesleyan in 2001 and 2002 to win back-to-back national titles. UC San Diego won three straight from 1995-97 while Rochester, Ithaca and the College of New Jersey each won two straight titles in women's soccer.
