Oakes, Brehm Earn CCIW Soccer Player of the Week Honors

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Katie Oakes of Augustana and Jon Brehm of Elmhurst were named soccer players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during competition the past week.

Oakes, a sophomore forward from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton North High School, tallied two goals and had two assists in a pair of conference victories last week. Oakes tallied an unassisted goal just before halftime against Millikin on Wednesday, Oct. 17, that gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead in a match they eventually won 2-0. On Saturday, Oct. 20, in a 4-2 win over North Park, she assisted on a goal by Teresa Crudele that tied the game at 1-1 in the first half. She scored the goal that put Augustana ahead 2-1 and assisted Crudele again on a goal that gave her team a 3-1 lead just before halftime. Oakes has eight goals and seven assists on the season.

Brehm, a freshman midfielder/forward from Sinking Spring, Pa., and Wilson High School, had another record week for the Bluejays, totaling five goals and an assist over a two-game span. On Saturday, Oct. 20, Brehm broke Elmhurst’s single-game scoring record in both goals and points by scoring four times in a 6-0 shutout win over Manchester College. In the win over Manchester, Brehm became the first player in Elmhurst history to record four goals and eight points. In the process, he also set a new-single season record for goals with 14 and is one point shy of tying the single-season points record of 36. For the season, he leads the Bluejays in goals (14), and points (35) and ranks second in assists (seven).
