CCIW Women's soccer tournament: championship, saturday, november 3

Game Three: Carthage vs. Wheaton, Saturday, November 3, 7 p.m. @ Wheaton
Wheaton and Carthage face off Saturday evening for the right to go to the NCAA Tournament. The Thunder are undefeated this season and are the defending national champion. Carthage placed second in the conference standings this season and are coming off a 3-0 win over third-seeded Augustana in the first round of the CCIW Women’s Soccer Tournament. Wheaton defeated Carthage 5-1 in its earlier match-up on October 24. In that game, Sarah Richardson (Marshall, Mich./H.S.) assisted Libby Passiales (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) on a goal while Taryne Lee (St. Charles, Ill./Wheaton Academy) scored what proved to be the game-winner for Wheaton. Kelly Baumgartner (Oswego, Ill./H.S.) scored Carthage’s only goal.

CCIW Women's soccer tournament: round one, Tuesday, october 30

Game One: Augustana @ Carthage, Tuesday, October 30, 7 p.m.
Carthage (14-3-1, 5-1-1) opens up the first round of the women’s soccer tournament against Augsutana (13-3-1, 5-2-0), a team the Lady Reds defeated 1-0 in two overtimes on Oct. 3

Kelly Baumgartner scored off an assist from Ashleigh Johnson in the 109 th minute to seal the victory for Carthage. Carthage goaltender Lindsey Bollman and Augustana netkeeper Keri Hess each tallied seven saves apiece in the game.

Jackie Peterson of Carthage netted 14 goals this season to lead the Lady Reds while also tallying five assists for 33 points. Baumgartner was second on the team with 16 points (eight goals), while Paige Land scored 10 points (four goals, two assists) this season.

Tessa Roberts leads Augustana in scoring with 34 points (15 goals, four assists) on the season, while Katie Oakes is second with 25 points (nine goals and seven assists) and Teresa Crudele is third with 20 points (nine goals, two assists). Crudele recently scored a hat trick in a 4-2 win over North Park. In addition, Lauren Polock has three goals and eight assists in 2007.

Game Two: Illinois Wesleyan @ Wheaton, Tuesday, October 30, 7 p.m.
Wheaton (20-0-0, 7-0-0) enters the tournament having the nation’s longest winning streak at 38 games. The Thunder has not lost a game since Augustana beat them 2-1 on September 23, 2007.

In their previous meeting against Illinois Wesleyan (7-7-3, 3-3-1), the Thunder came away with a 2-0 victory in Bloomington, Ill., on Oct. 6. Taryne Lee scored both goals for Wheaton in the win. Alli Novak made 10 saves in goal for the Titans.

Lee was the Thunder’s team leader in goals this season with 22, while Sarah Richardson was second in goal scoring with 18. Lee finished the regular season with eight assists for a total of 52 points, while Richardson led the team with 15 assists for a total of 51 points.

For Illinois Wesleyan, Caroline Leighton is the leading scorer with 27 points (13 goals, one assist) on the season. Elizabeth Sinclair has 14 points on the season for the Titans, tallying six goals and two assists.
