1999 MEN'S SOCCER - WHEATON PICKED TO WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT LEAGUE CROWN IN VOTE OF CCIW COACHES

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - The Wheaton Crusaders of veteran head coach Joe Bean have captured nine of the first 11 men's soccer championships in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, including the last four in a row. According to a pre-season vote by the league coaches, the Crusaders are the favorites to make it 10 out of the last 12 and five in a row. A year ago the Crusaders went 21-1 overall and 6-0 in the CCIW.
In a vote of the CCIW coaches, Wheaton picked up 42 points and six first place votes. Carthage, which went 4-2 in the CCIW and 10-9-1 overall last year, gathered 36 points for second place while Augustana (12-7-1 and 4-2) was third with 31 points and the remaining first place vote. North Central picked up 27 points in fourth place after finishing 1998 with a 15-5 overall record and a 4-2 league mark. Illinois Wesleyan (10-6-2 & 2-4) had 24 points in fifth place with Millikin (8-11 & 1-5) gathering 16 points in sixth and North Park (1-14-1 & 0-6) picking up 13 points in seventh.
