Mesko, Janek Named CCIW Men’s Soccer Players of the Week
NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Wheaton’s Stephen Mesko and Millikin’s Bruce Janek were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Soccer Players of the Week Tuesday.
Mesko, a sophomore forward from Holt, Mich., led Wheaton to a pair of victories last week with three goals and an assist. On Tuesday, the Thunder defeated Lawrence 4-0 as Mesko scored a goal and contributed an assist. Mesko led the Thunder with two goals including the game-winner, in a 3-2 win against eighth-ranked Capital on Friday night. Mesko’s first goal of the night gave Wheaton a 2-1 lead and his second goal gave the Thunder an important 3-1 cushion late in the second half.
Janek, a senior goalkeeper from West Chicago, Ill., and West Chicago High School, played all 110 minutes in a 2-2 tie against the University of Dallas on Saturday. Janek had 10 saves in the game. In a 2-1 win over Franklin on Sept. 21, Janek had another 10 saves.
