Mitchell, Gathje, Laude Named Soccer Players of the Week

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Kelly Mitchell and Matt Laude of Millikin, along with Kevin Gathje of North Park were named soccer players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.

Mitchell, a sophomore midfielder from Barrington, Ill., scored in the 21st minute in a 1-0 win over North Central as Millikin picked up its first CCIW win of the year. Mitchell finished the year with a share of the team lead in goals.

Gathje, a sophomore midfielder from Overland Park, Kan., assisted on both goals in a 2-1 over Elmhurst last Wednesday to capture the conference championship. Gathje is second on the team in total assists with seven on the year.

Laude, a freshman forward from Frankfort, Ill., recorded a hat trick in a 4-1 win over North Central last week. Laude scored each of the Big Blue’s final three goals, finding the net in the 33rd, 72nd and 77th minutes. The goals give Laude four for the season and combined with his three assists this year, he finishes as Millikin’s leading scorer (11) and tied for first in goals (4).
