Daly, Souders Named Soccer Players of the Week
NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Michelle Daly of North Central and Ryan Souders of Wheaton were named soccer players of the week in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tuesday after their performances during the previous week of competition.
Daly, a junior forward from Oswego, Ill., scored her first two goals of the season to help North Central (1-3) to its first victory of the season, a 2-1 overtime win over Maranatha Baptist. Daly scored the first goal by chipping a shot over the goalie’s head in the first 16 minutes of the game. Her second score came in overtime on a penalty kick.
Souders, a senior goalkeeper from Wheaton, Ill., helped lead the Thunder to a 3-0 record last week. He recorded a shutout in all three of Wheaton’s matches last week, with nine saves. Souders and the Thunder defense has posted four shutouts in Wheaton’s five matches this season and the lone goal scored against Wheaton was on a penalty kick. On Tuesday night Souders made four saves in 90 minutes of action in Wheaton’s 5-0 victory against Robert Morris (Ill.). Last Friday night he led the Thunder to a 1-0 victory against 16th-ranked Calvin with one save. He made four saves in a 2-0 victory against Hope on Saturday.
